Oatmeal Honey Soap Recipe

This recipe is great for both beginner Soap Makers as well as the more seasoned. This is a cold process soap which will fill a 5lb mold. The essential oils in the recipe can be interchanged with your favorite scents and are completely optional. The ones I used gave my soap a very light refreshing smell that was not too overpowering.

I hope you enjoy making this soap as much as I did.

INGREDIENTS:

20 ounces             Distilled Water
7.86 ounces          Sodium Hydroxide (Lye)
40 Ounces            Olive Oil
16 Ounces            Coconut Oil (melted)
1 Tablespoon       Melted Shea Butter
1 Tablespoon       Honey
10 Drops              Lavender Oil
10 Drops              Tea Trea Oil
3 Tablespoon      Ground Oatmeal

METHOD:

  • Mix Sodium Hydroxide into Distilled Water. Allow to cool down to room temp.
  • Mix Olive Oil and Coconut Oil together in a large bowl. (Close to room temperature)
  • When lye mixture is about the same temperature as oil mixture, carefully add lye mixture. Mix with a hand blender until a light trace has been achieved.
  • Add Shea Butter, Honey, Lavender Oil and Tea Tree Oil. Continue mixing until a desired trace has been achieved.
  • Pour mixture into mold. Cover mold and wrap with towels for even setting. Let sit in mold for 24 hrs.
  • Remove from mold and cut soap to desired size. Let soap cure for 4 weeks before use.

TIPS:

* Ensure you do proper research before working with Sodium Hydroxide. This can be very harmful!

  1. Hello, is the oatmeal just for the top or did you mix some in as well?
